2008 Presidential Election Survey Results - JuLY 20, 2008

Below are the results of a survey that completed on July 20, 2008 to 110,000 homes in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania (10,000 homes per state) regarding the 2008 presidential election.

Candidates mentioned in this survey were John McCain and Barack Obama.

Order of preference for those who intend to vote in the 2008 General Election:
  • Voting for Barack Obama = 42.20%
  • Voting for John McCain = 40.68%
  • No Preference = 17.13%
  • 19,039 live respondents answered one or more questions. This is 17.31% of all households.
  • 9,024 live respondents completed the entire survey. This is 8.20% of all households.

Summary:

  1. Barack Obama is winning the total vote against John McCain in the states targeted in this survey by 1.52%.
  2. Head-to-head, John McCain wins 5 of the states surveyed (AZ, FL, MO, OH and PA). This represents 89 Electoral College Votes.
  3. Head-to-head, Barack Obama wins 6 of the states surveyed (CA, CO, MN, NC, NH and NY). This represents 124 Electoral College Votes.
  4. States with the highest percent response where age mattered in who a respondent voted for were NC (20.41%), NY (20.00%), NH (19.51%) and FL (4.63%).
  5. States with the highest percent response where race mattered in who a respondent voted for were AZ (62.34%), CA (56.97%), and FL (65.91%).

State by State Results - July 20, 2008, 10 State Survey:

  • Arizona - 1,639 respondents. John McCain has 50.45% of the vote.. Barack Obama has 32.73% of the vote. The margin for John McCain is 17.72%. 16.82% of the vote is undecided. 49.69% of respondents were Republican, 26.95% were Democrats and 23.35% had no party preference.

  • California - 1,465 respondents. Barack Obama has 43.43% of the vote. John McCain has 36.86% of the vote. The margin for Barack Obama is 6.57%. 19.71% of the vote is undecided. 40.05% of respondents were Republican, 39.28% were Democrats and 20.67% had no party preference.

  • Colorado - 1,885 respondents. Barack Obama has 42.32% of the vote. John McCain has 41.82% of the vote. The margin for Barack Obama is 0.50%. 15.86% of the vote is undecided. 40.28% of respondents were Republican, 33.48% were Democrats and 26.24% had no party preference.

  • Florida - 1,433 respondents. John McCain has 47.38% of the vote. Barack Obama has 35.75% of the vote. The margin for John McCain is 11.63%. 16.87% of the vote is undecided. 49.06% of respondents were Republican, 31.82% were Democrats and 19.12% had no party prefer-ence.

  • Minnesota - 2,165 respondents. Barack Obama has 43.99% of the vote. John McCain has 38.92% of the vote. The margin for Barack Obama is 5.07%. 17.09% of the vote is undecided. 34.27% of respondents were Republican, 35.47% were Democrats and 30.26% had no party preference.

  • Missouri - 1,713 respondents. John McCain has 43.68% of the vote. Barack Obama has 40.51% of the vote. The margin for John McCain is 3.17%. 15.81% of the vote is undecided. 39.92% of respondents were Republican, 33.93% were Democrats and 26.16% had no party preference.

  • North Carolina - 1,587 respondents. Barack Obama has 42.96% of the vote. John McCain has 41.49% of the vote. The margin for Barack Obama is 1.47%. 15.55% of the vote is undecided. 40.32% of respondents were Republican, 38.85% were Democrats and 20.83% had no party preference.

  • New Hampshire - 1,501 respondents. Barack Obama has 43.17% of the vote. John McCain has 40.82% of the vote. The margin for Barack Obama is 2.35%. 16.01% of the vote is undecided. 37.35% of respondents were Republican, 29.24% were Democrats and 33.41% had no party preference.

  • New York - 1,694 respondents. Barack Obama has 45.18% of the vote. John McCain has 37.01% of the vote. The margin for Barack Obama is 8.17%. 17.81% of the vote is undecided. 37.11% of respondents were Republican, 40.70% were Democrats and 22.20% had no party preference.

  • Ohio - 1,950 respondents. John McCain has 44.64% of the vote. Barack Obama has 36.12% of the vote. The margin for John McCain is 8.52%. 19.24% of the vote is undecided. 44.33% of respondents were Republican, 34.90% were Democrats and 20.77% had no party preference.

  • Pennsylvania - 2,007 respondents. John McCain has 41.28% of the vote. Barack Obama has 41.08% of the vote. The margin for John McCain is 0.20%. 17.64% of the vote is undecided. 43.35% of respondents were Republican, 42.83% were Democrats and 13.82% had no party preference.
